Breathing is the very function of life, it fluctuates with us according to our state of mind. From the short breaths connected with uneasiness and restlessness – as if we were half living – to the deeper ones, through which we become aware of our body and our emotions find a balance. This encounter connects the general state of the body, the awareness of the possibilities of movement, the relationship with the environment, and the listening to our breath, the breath of others and of the group. These are the distinctive signs of RESPIRA.
“An ever-changing, repeated breath that leaves the space to start over”. Luis Agorreta
“Like many other human beings, I have a complicated relationship with time. I chase it, I try to catch it or slow it down. In this process, I have rediscovered breathing as a link, as an anchor to the present”. Noa Van Tichel
“Breathing collects memories and connects the body to our thoughts”. Luca Tomasoni
“Don’t fear apnoea, apnoea is useful. Let go of what doesn’t want to stay. Look for the reciprocal and kiss a star”. Viola Scaglione
“To sing, in truth, is a different breath. A breath of nothing. A calm gust. A wind.” Rainer Maria Rilke inspired Nadja Guesewell
Texts emerged during the creation process with the interpreters.
The creative process for RESPIRA will be accompanied by Giorgio Ferrero and Rodolfo Mongitore’s music and Alberta Finocchiaro’s lighting design.
